Born and educated in Sydney, Kathleen has been a Coffs Coast resident since 1970. The following years saw the birth of four sons, the last born in 1984 with a disability and challenging issues. This introduced Kathleen to the merry-go-round of therapies and the world of disabilities. Consequently she has had involvement with a number of disability specific services through her son’s life including Early Intervention, Ageing, Disability and Home Care, Coffs Harbour Challenge, Coffs Harbour Support Services and R&R. As a parent she has always pushed to give her son the best advantages in life. She believes much can be achieved with a positive attitude, open discussion, good planning and pushing the boundaries.
Kathleen’s association with R&R began when her son was 12 years old. She has held a position on the Management Committee of R&R since the late 1990’s. Since 2008 she has been volunteering one day a week in the administration section of the service. This personal growth journey has allowed her to have a broader understanding of the functionality of the service. She is kept well informed of all issues and the variety of needs and challenges facing the 270 plus families R&R currently supports. She says it’s wonderful to be around the office when they are preparing for outings or trips and to see the smiles and joy on the faces of staff and clients alike.
Her son has grown up with R&R as has her family. R&R is an extension of her family and she feels very privileged to be personally involved in such a dynamic organisation and is very positive about its future direction. Kathleen feels that in the near future, R&R will be entering a very exciting phase of change as to the way services are delivered and believes that R&R is well placed to be a leading force with these changes.
I’m emailing today to tell you how great my support worker is; not only is he very patient, helpful and quick-thinking, but he’s also the most friendly worker I’ve had to date. Whenever I’m not feeling my best, he seems to see that and not push me to do things that I’d otherwise be willing to do, however when I am feeling able to do things, he encourages me to do it myself, he teaches me how to do it if I’m not understanding, or congratulates me when I do it by myself.
Just wanted to thank you for the amazing support staff you have put into our home to help with our daughter . One outstanding support worker supported her in such a professional manner , and was not afraid to help in any way she could .
“R&R gave me my first real opportunity to work in a new industry following my career change. I value the opportunity that you extended, the way in which everyone at R&R including Admin, Coordinators and fellow Support Workers welcomed the new greenhorn and the valuable experience gained. ”
“Wonderful organisation doing some great programs and initiatives.”
“Great place to work with awesome staff and clients keep up the good work”
“I am very grateful and blessed that I have been part of a wonderful service during my time at R&R Disability Services.”
Peter, myself and his family I would like to thank the staff for the wonderful opportunity you provided for our son.
He enjoyed the camp immensely, I believe it is an experience that he will never forget.
