Claire & Kathleen are Self-Managed Day Program clients of R&R. Claire is 37 years old and has been with R&R under a Self-Management program for the past 5 ½ years, during which time they have been able to choose their path with confidence and support.
Claire is a lovely young woman who is full of life and a wide variety of interests including cooking, swimming and gym. Since changing to a self-managed program, Claire has been working at one of the Lifehouse shops and is doing a first aid course to enable her to take on a job at a local swimming pool.
Her transition to R&R self-managed program came about after being in a Sydney based service that wasn’t able to offer her the independence or communication that she needed. Kathleen says that at first it was a little scary changing to the self-managed program but they couldn’t be happier now. Claire is supported by a team of support workers who assist her with developing her living skills and also support her in participating in the local community.
Kathleen says “it’s wonderful knowing that Claire is getting out and doing what she wants to do when she wants to do it, rather than being limited by a structured program devised for groups. She is learning to cook in the home, goes shopping and attends the gym, and loves going to work. She has really blossomed under the self-managed program, it’s so wonderful to see. We are hoping that long term she will develop the skills that will enable her to live an even more independent life in her own home”.
Claire has now transitioned into her own flat and is enjoying independence in part due to hours in developing her living skills through her self-managed Day Program. Well done Clare!
Just wanted to thank you for the amazing support staff you have put into our home to help with our daughter . One outstanding support worker supported her in such a professional manner , and was not afraid to help in any way she could .
I’m emailing today to tell you how great my support worker is; not only is he very patient, helpful and quick-thinking, but he’s also the most friendly worker I’ve had to date. Whenever I’m not feeling my best, he seems to see that and not push me to do things that I’d otherwise be willing to do, however when I am feeling able to do things, he encourages me to do it myself, he teaches me how to do it if I’m not understanding, or congratulates me when I do it by myself.
“R&R gave me my first real opportunity to work in a new industry following my career change. I value the opportunity that you extended, the way in which everyone at R&R including Admin, Coordinators and fellow Support Workers welcomed the new greenhorn and the valuable experience gained. ”
“Wonderful organisation doing some great programs and initiatives.”
“Great place to work with awesome staff and clients keep up the good work”
“I am very grateful and blessed that I have been part of a wonderful service during my time at R&R Disability Services.”
